  • 1-Star Review: Extremely Disappointing Experience – Poor Service & Tasteless Food I spent 7 wonderful days in Edinburgh exploring various local and international restaurants – Chinese, Indian, Japanese, McDonald’s, Nando’s, Wagamama, and many more. Sadly, my last meal of the trip turned out to be the worst experience of all. My family was looking for a vegetarian option and came across Hong Fu Noodle Bar and Restaurant. We entered and were told the restaurant was upstairs. Before dining, we asked to use the restroom to wash our hands. The staff told us it was downstairs – only for customers – then changed the answer seconds later saying food and toilets are both upstairs. This inconsistency was confusing and unwelcoming. Despite the restaurant being large, it was completely empty – which in hindsight, made sense. We were a group of 4 but chose to order just one dish initially to check the taste. From that moment, we felt unwelcome. The staff member, Jassice, made a comment to her colleague in Chinese while giving us a negative look and body language. It was clear we were being judged for ordering only one dish. While waiting, the children were quietly playing with chopsticks (as commonly done in many Asian cultures). Instead of handling it kindly, Jassice pointed her finger to her lips and sternly signaled the child to be quiet, leaving the child confused and upset. When I asked why, she said they were making noise and might break the chopsticks. Things got worse. While I was still reading the menu, she suddenly snatched it from my hand without asking. When I asked why, she replied, “They will get sticky and oily because your food is here.” I explained I was not eating yet and still reading. Her tone and approach were unnecessarily rude. When the food finally arrived, it was completely tasteless. We were relieved we hadn’t ordered more. This was not just bad service – it was disrespectful, unprofessional, and unnecessarily rude. The entire experience left a bitter end to an otherwise great trip. 📌 My recommendation: Avoid this restaurant completely. If the owner is not aware of this, I suggest reviewing the CCTV footage for staff behavior. This is a genuine review, and I will attach the receipt as proof of visit. 👎 Worst food and worst customer service in Edinburgh. (0.0%)
  • 45 minute wait for appetizers, plus another 30 minutes for the roast to arrive. The waiter dropped our lemon wedge from the appetizer and said he'd be back with a new one and we never saw him again... Gordon would never stand for this. To be fair, the Sunday roast was decent and the sticky toffee pudding and tiramisu was very delicious. It saved the experience. (0.0%)
  • A family of 5 (adults) sat around a 4 seated table was poor to start with! Waiter was good, had to get his attention a couple of times for drinks. Food was really the let down. Overly seasoned (very very salty), greasy and way over priced for what it was. The restaurant itself looks lovely, very relaxing and warm atmosphere, plenty staff around which always looks good for business. Drinks were fine, George Street prices but we expected that from the "new" St James. We asked the waiter to take the £28 service charge off and handed him £10 tip, we thought that was quite sufficient after a £230 bill for food (mains only) and drinks. (bear in mind 1 person was drinking water, and another had 1 vodka!). Overall it was below average because of the food. We wouldn't come back unfortunately. (0.0%)

  • *Sigh* this is a tough one to write. My wife and I love Chef Ramsay so much & he’s one of the few celebrities for us that if we saw him we’d be starstruck. Unfortunately, I have to give the experience 3 stars out of 5. We have been to many Michelin starred restaurants all over the world and what separates these restaurants is the service/experience, less so the food. The food here was outstanding. The service, timing, and ambiance weren’t. Don’t get me wrong, the staff was extremely nice and attentive, but there were things that made the visit less than stellar. 1) Timing of the courses was quite inconsistent or delayed. I realize it can’t always be perfect but when the first few courses are spaced out < 5 minutes apart and then it takes 10-15 minutes before the main, you notice the gap. It was also a ~15 minute wait between them taking our last plates away and us receiving the check that we had to ask for. What was most disappointing was that when I’m at a restaurant of that caliber, the last thing I should be thinking is “where is the check so I can leave?” 2) The ambiance wasn’t there. There was only one room for dining and it seemed like there was maybe one too many tables in there. Sitting down at my table I was about a foot away from the guy sitting at the next table and I can tell you every word of their conversation. They faced everyone towards the center of the dining room which I liked, but it was difficult to get out from the table to visit the restroom or avoid bumping the guy to my side at the other table. 3) Service felt frantic. They take the approach of “no one should have an empty glass” and “if you see an empty tray or unfolded napkin, take care of it” - a real collaborative mentality. They take it so far that it’s a detriment to the service. I don’t need my water glassed re-filled every time I sip it and I’d like consistency on who is serving me so I can build a rapport over the meal. After $750 spent for two, I expected more. (0.0%)
  • - Only two people spoke English - Poor communication - Even booked table for hot pot , they won’t serve it unless tell them specifically before hand - They will kick you out with the time limit even you have plate full of food (0.0%)
  • 0 Please avoid this place we had a voucher to use and the girl could not find voucher reference. She left my sister waiting for ages until we had to phone my nephew who had gifted us for Xmas treat. We were made feel as if we had free meal and people were looking at us. Humiliating . Terrible service and meal mediocre not worth the money . Prices expensive for what you get please don’t go here . It will only waste your day ! (0.0%)

  • An early Dinner reservation was an absolute delight with great service and fabulous food. We started with Htipiti which is a pepper paste better than houmous in my opinion. We had pita bread and olives with it and it was a delicious starter. We then Both had Chicken Souvlaki which was served skewered with light potato chips and tsatziki and was extremely tasty. All in all a very decent priced and marvellous meal. Attentive service in a pleasant atmosphere. (0.0%)

"So I was suggested the Masala Dosa which didn’t disappoint in terms of flavour. It was actually quite delicious. Loved it 👌very nice The Masala dosa is a famous south indian rice crepe stuffed with spiced potato - served with 2 chutneys (coriander and coconut) and sambar (lentil curry) I ordered a masala dosa and they served to me in a takeaway bag which I didn’t request. Not that it bothered me much to be honest but for others maybe? I told the server that I shall seat myself outside to eat, had I actually asked for a takeaway I doubt they would have gave the mango lassi in a glass. Haha Waited 30minutes for the dosa ⏰ the mango lassi came to me within five minutes after ordering. 👍 The dosa was not that hot, it was as if it was sitting in that box for a while before it came to me which was a shame I feel like if I had eaten it absolutely freshly cooked without it sitting around before it being served to me I would have not bothered at all that I waited 30minutes for it because the flavours were actually exceptional. Pros: The taste of the masala dosa is great as well as the dips that are accompanied on the side. Cons: Waiting time, Confusion on how the order was handled. The total bill £17.50 for Masala Dosa and Mango Lassi. I would come again and suggest this place."

"Great venue but food was nothing to write home about and very overpriced for what it was. Simple bowl of not that special gnocchi for £24! Two slices of tomato with radicchio for £7. Very unimaginative vegetarian selection. But we were most disappointed by the unsmiling serving and the long wait after the mains. We felt ignored. We waited so long, in fact, we decided to go elsewhere for desert. We won’t be returning."
