"The service here is terrible. First the host didn’t greet us and responded to me rudely - secondly she said we only have 1 hour to eat. After being seated, we waited 15 minutes for a server to then come and only bring water, 15 minutes after that he asked to take our order, considering we only had 30 minutes left because of the rude host we only ordered appetizers and wine - he interrupted me and walked away - the rude host came back insisting on us ordering dinner with the limited time that she gave us in the first place, we then left"

"Visited Yadhuvanshi again today for lunch and had another great experience. The food was delicious and fresh as always, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Service was excellent—Somnath and Bhupi both took great care of us, very polite and attentive. As a lovely gesture, they even offered us complimentary ice cream, which made the visit extra special. Minimal wait time and great value for money. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"

"Great venue but food was nothing to write home about and very overpriced for what it was. Simple bowl of not that special gnocchi for £24! Two slices of tomato with radicchio for £7. Very unimaginative vegetarian selection. But we were most disappointed by the unsmiling serving and the long wait after the mains. We felt ignored. We waited so long, in fact, we decided to go elsewhere for desert. We won’t be returning."

"We went to Makars Mash Bar in Edinburgh after my hairdresser recommended it to me. We were not disappointed! We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The service was very friendly and efficient. Next to no waiting time from ordering our Lamb Shanks with Bacon and Spring Onion Mash. Our meal was really good and so tasty. Good value too. A great atmosphere all round. Booking is a must though, or you could be disappointed. Ps. Not a big thing but... my husband ordered a beer, all local I believe. It was too sweet for him and he's partial to a cider. Just not to his taste. I did like how they brought a jug of cold Edinburgh tap water without be asked. We'll definitely be back. Can't wait!"

"1-Star Review: Extremely Disappointing Experience – Poor Service & Tasteless Food I spent 7 wonderful days in Edinburgh exploring various local and international restaurants – Chinese, Indian, Japanese, McDonald’s, Nando’s, Wagamama, and many more. Sadly, my last meal of the trip turned out to be the worst experience of all. My family was looking for a vegetarian option and came across Hong Fu Noodle Bar and Restaurant. We entered and were told the restaurant was upstairs. Before dining, we asked to use the restroom to wash our hands. The staff told us it was downstairs – only for customers – then changed the answer seconds later saying food and toilets are both upstairs. This inconsistency was confusing and unwelcoming. Despite the restaurant being large, it was completely empty – which in hindsight, made sense. We were a group of 4 but chose to order just one dish initially to check the taste. From that moment, we felt unwelcome. The staff member, Jassice, made a comment to her colleague in Chinese while giving us a negative look and body language. It was clear we were being judged for ordering only one dish. While waiting, the children were quietly playing with chopsticks (as commonly done in many Asian cultures). Instead of handling it kindly, Jassice pointed her finger to her lips and sternly signaled the child to be quiet, leaving the child confused and upset. When I asked why, she said they were making noise and might break the chopsticks. Things got worse. While I was still reading the menu, she suddenly snatched it from my hand without asking. When I asked why, she replied, “They will get sticky and oily because your food is here.” I explained I was not eating yet and still reading. Her tone and approach were unnecessarily rude. When the food finally arrived, it was completely tasteless. We were relieved we hadn’t ordered more. This was not just bad service – it was disrespectful, unprofessional, and unnecessarily rude. The entire experience left a bitter end to an otherwise great trip. 📌 My recommendation: Avoid this restaurant completely. If the owner is not aware of this, I suggest reviewing the CCTV footage for staff behavior. This is a genuine review, and I will attach the receipt as proof of visit. 👎 Worst food and worst customer service in Edinburgh."

"A family of 5 (adults) sat around a 4 seated table was poor to start with! Waiter was good, had to get his attention a couple of times for drinks. Food was really the let down. Overly seasoned (very very salty), greasy and way over priced for what it was. The restaurant itself looks lovely, very relaxing and warm atmosphere, plenty staff around which always looks good for business. Drinks were fine, George Street prices but we expected that from the "new" St James. We asked the waiter to take the £28 service charge off and handed him £10 tip, we thought that was quite sufficient after a £230 bill for food (mains only) and drinks. (bear in mind 1 person was drinking water, and another had 1 vodka!). Overall it was below average because of the food. We wouldn't come back unfortunately."

"A restaurant with a beautiful view. Atmospheric, the food was very good, although we waited 55 minutes for the main courses. The restrooms were dirty and the water was cold. As for the room service, it was a disaster. The behavior of Ms. Anto (the room manager) was unacceptable. She had no manners and was completely clueless about basic customer service. She completely ruined the charm of the place. I wouldn't recommend her because of her."

"10/10!! The staff is super friendly and attentive, the vegan food delicious!! They were very welcoming and asked us if we had any allergies which was very thoughtful. We tried the vegan burgers and they did not disappoint! We had the angry vegan and the plant burger +vegan cheese, chips and ketchup, they were delicious!! The burger is thick and juicy, very flavourful too. The non alcoholic mojito was also delicious! Furthermore, the location is perfect since it's located near the train station. We were waiting for our train and had some luggage and they were very kind to offer a spot where we could leave them while we ate. Overall a great experience, would definitely recommend!!"

"A beautifully relaxing atmosphere with comfy leather benches. The Sunday roast was the best roast I've had in a long time. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent, especially from Lottie who cut my meat up for me as I'm recovering from surgery . Thanks guys 💓"
