A family of 5 (adults) sat around a 4 seated table was poor to start with! Waiter was good, had to get his attention a couple of times for drinks. Food was really the let down. Overly seasoned (very very salty), greasy and way over priced for what it was. The restaurant itself looks lovely, very relaxing and warm atmosphere, plenty staff around which always looks good for business. Drinks were fine, George Street prices but we expected that from the "new" St James. We asked the waiter to take the £28 service charge off and handed him £10 tip, we thought that was quite sufficient after a £230 bill for food (mains only) and drinks. (bear in mind 1 person was drinking water, and another had 1 vodka!). Overall it was below average because of the food. We wouldn't come back unfortunately.
A restaurant with a beautiful view. Atmospheric, the food was very good, although we waited 55 minutes for the main courses. The restrooms were dirty and the water was cold. As for the room service, it was a disaster. The behavior of Ms. Anto (the room manager) was unacceptable. She had no manners and was completely clueless about basic customer service. She completely ruined the charm of the place. I wouldn't recommend her because of her.
10 out 10! Small and intimate setting with incredible food and atmosphere! We plan on coming back before we leave Edinburgh.
10/10!! The staff is super friendly and attentive, the vegan food delicious!! They were very welcoming and asked us if we had any allergies which was very thoughtful. We tried the vegan burgers and they did not disappoint! We had the angry vegan and the plant burger +vegan cheese, chips and ketchup, they were delicious!! The burger is thick and juicy, very flavourful too. The non alcoholic mojito was also delicious! Furthermore, the location is perfect since it's located near the train station. We were waiting for our train and had some luggage and they were very kind to offer a spot where we could leave them while we ate. Overall a great experience, would definitely recommend!!
100% recommended if you are celiac. We ordered all the dishes gluten-free and they were delicious. We started with an appetizer (a type of fish cream) where my partner got specific bread with gluten and I got gluten-free oat toasts. Then we ordered 2 meats that the waiter recommended, both were delicious and also gluten-free, and to finish, we ordered a Scottish dessert with whiskey that was also very good. There were purely gluten-free dishes and others that could be adapted. Besides the waiter knowing perfectly about gluten-free dishes (in fact, they ask if you have any allergies before serving you to take it into even more account), everything was detailed on the menu. The place is very intimate and beautiful, even romantic, and it's very well located, right on Victoria Street. I recommend booking online.
10/12/24 20:30: My partner's 40th Birthday celebrations took a bit of a nose dive as the restaurant we had booked at were experiencing unforeseen problems, so with availability on the open-table reservation site and just around the corner, Kyloe looked like a great option. We were freezing cold so the stunning Christmas decorations outside, a warm, cosy yet lively atmosphere we thought we found a winner. How wrong we were. Didn't even get to or want to experience the food or drink thanks to the pompous, arrogant, self-worthy attitude of the front of house gentleman that told us yes, he could fit us and in no more or no less words: "can you get off opentable" (I had the page still open on my phone). Then we're shown to a table and politely asked about the midweek 'Steak me out' offer still live on the homepage of their website at the time of this review. "That finished months ago". That was it. No apology, no explanation. Just walked off. From walking in and his arrogant 'why are you bothering us' type attitude we immediately felt like we didn't want to give this establishment any of our money, let alone celebrate my partner's 40th here. The next lady who came to us further explained it was the marketing company that need to update the website (I don't know how in this day and age that takes over a month to do) and went on to inform us they did have a Christmas menu offer on and apologised that we should have had a card on our table to know this. She was perfectly polite but we were already done, beautiful restaurant, cosy vibe, but sour taste in our mouth from the unwarmest of greetings had us get up and leave. We had to walk another 15 minutes, but went and had the warmest welcome, amazing food and service at Cote Brasserie instead and celebrated the night away there.
After an absolutely fantastic night having dinner with my husband, I just want to thank John, Emelia and all front of house staff who looked after us the whole evening taking the time to explain the menu and give recommendations for food choices. Not to forget the chefs for the delicious food and presentation. Without a doubt we will be returning it's hard to find good service and good food in such a relaxed atmosphere. Kelly Preston
10 years passed unnoticed, and here we are again - in Edinburgh whisky experience. New faces of the guides, but the barrel for the visitors remained the same. While moving along the rails we smelled the familiar notes of malt. The whisky museum delighted us by the both dusty bottles number and their age. What was the new for us in 10 years break? As it turned out, the new Scottish whisky area (the fifth one!) appeared on the whisky stage: Campbeltown. «Why?» - we asked our guide. «For the historical reasons» - was the answer. Ok, understood: the more whiskies the more interesting life. And also during the tour they paid more attention on the difference between malt and blended whiskies. Then Amber restaurant’s turn came. In fact, we were delighted with the meal set offered as well as whiskies’ list itself. Let alone our colorful waiter appeared to be a great football fan. Fantastic. What else will they come up in 10 years?
10/10 service, food and atmosphere. Raffaello was a legend waiter. We will be back for more again soon. Great wine and the pasta is so fresh.
1st time at this restaurant tonight for a family birthday celebration. Can’t fault a single thing. Staff are amazingly friendly and attentive. The food was top class, We had many different dishes and each one was distinct in flavour and cooked to perfection. Great atmosphere and very clean (including the toilets, spotlessly clean) I was pleasantly surprised at our final bill, very reasonably priced for the quantity/quality of the food and fantastic service we received, would definitely recommend a visit here and we will visit again.

I am very disappointed by the experience we had at your restaurant. We had booked a table for 8 people for Tuesday evening and were really looking forward to it and it was my boyfriend’s birthday, and we wanted to celebrate with Georgian food for the first time. One hour before our reservation, we texted the owner to let him know we would be arriving 10–15 minutes late. He replied that it was fine. However, when we arrived after taking a taxi from the other side of the city, the restaurant was completely closed with no explanation or notice. Not only did we waste money on the taxi and lose an evening we had been anticipating, but we were also deeply disappointed. What made the situation even more frustrating is that after we went to a nearby pizza place, we noticed the restaurant appeared to have opened again when we walked past it shortly afterwards. We didn’t go back in to ask for an explanation, as the whole experience already felt like a joke. Seeing other reviews mentioning that customers are being rushed to finish their meals only adds to the impression that the restaurant is not being managed seriously or professionally.

Definitely glad we booked for our evening meal, the queues today from clinch were down the hill, tbf I would queue from this food . We had scotch eggs starters and tomato soup followed by lamb shank and beef brisket , with a scrambled rich bonnet mash and a Smokey bacon mash, everything was divine, atmosphere was brilliant very busy but we didn’t have to wait long for the food and it was piping hot , the staff were really attentive but not in your face ,would highly recommend. When we’re next in Edinburgh we will definitely be back ❤️
