1-Star Review: Extremely Disappointing Experience – Poor Service & Tasteless Food I spent 7 wonderful days in Edinburgh exploring various local and international restaurants – Chinese, Indian, Japanese, McDonald’s, Nando’s, Wagamama, and many more. Sadly, my last meal of the trip turned out to be the worst experience of all. My family was looking for a vegetarian option and came across Hong Fu Noodle Bar and Restaurant. We entered and were told the restaurant was upstairs. Before dining, we asked to use the restroom to wash our hands. The staff told us it was downstairs – only for customers – then changed the answer seconds later saying food and toilets are both upstairs. This inconsistency was confusing and unwelcoming. Despite the restaurant being large, it was completely empty – which in hindsight, made sense. We were a group of 4 but chose to order just one dish initially to check the taste. From that moment, we felt unwelcome. The staff member, Jassice, made a comment to her colleague in Chinese while giving us a negative look and body language. It was clear we were being judged for ordering only one dish. While waiting, the children were quietly playing with chopsticks (as commonly done in many Asian cultures). Instead of handling it kindly, Jassice pointed her finger to her lips and sternly signaled the child to be quiet, leaving the child confused and upset. When I asked why, she said they were making noise and might break the chopsticks. Things got worse. While I was still reading the menu, she suddenly snatched it from my hand without asking. When I asked why, she replied, “They will get sticky and oily because your food is here.” I explained I was not eating yet and still reading. Her tone and approach were unnecessarily rude. When the food finally arrived, it was completely tasteless. We were relieved we hadn’t ordered more. This was not just bad service – it was disrespectful, unprofessional, and unnecessarily rude. The entire experience left a bitter end to an otherwise great trip. 📌 My recommendation: Avoid this restaurant completely. If the owner is not aware of this, I suggest reviewing the CCTV footage for staff behavior. This is a genuine review, and I will attach the receipt as proof of visit. 👎 Worst food and worst customer service in Edinburgh.
Absolutely incredible. I can't wait to come back! We had the al a carte menu. The value is really good for the food served. Starters were lovely. An experience, not just food. Gorgeous. They felt small so we thought the mains would be the same but nope! Mains - At first there was an issue but dealt with fantastically. The mains were incredible. The ingredients are clearly fresh. I loved my main but the sides - just wow. I've never had an onion so tasty, or potatoes dauphinoise soo tasty. The waiting staff equally fantastic. Being gluten free, I said this once to one member but it was known to everyone. Small note - the restaurant felt cold. A little more heating. But, I really cant wait to come back!
100% recommended if you are celiac. We ordered all the dishes gluten-free and they were delicious. We started with an appetizer (a type of fish cream) where my partner got specific bread with gluten and I got gluten-free oat toasts. Then we ordered 2 meats that the waiter recommended, both were delicious and also gluten-free, and to finish, we ordered a Scottish dessert with whiskey that was also very good. There were purely gluten-free dishes and others that could be adapted. Besides the waiter knowing perfectly about gluten-free dishes (in fact, they ask if you have any allergies before serving you to take it into even more account), everything was detailed on the menu. The place is very intimate and beautiful, even romantic, and it's very well located, right on Victoria Street. I recommend booking online.
£10 tea is an absolute bargain. For £10 I didn't know what to expect, but what we got was a full afternoon tea stand with sandwiches, scones and cakes! Will be booking in again before the offer ends. Thank you Brewhemia.
0 Please avoid this place we had a voucher to use and the girl could not find voucher reference. She left my sister waiting for ages until we had to phone my nephew who had gifted us for Xmas treat. We were made feel as if we had free meal and people were looking at us. Humiliating . Terrible service and meal mediocre not worth the money . Prices expensive for what you get please don’t go here . It will only waste your day !
10/12/24 20:30: My partner's 40th Birthday celebrations took a bit of a nose dive as the restaurant we had booked at were experiencing unforeseen problems, so with availability on the open-table reservation site and just around the corner, Kyloe looked like a great option. We were freezing cold so the stunning Christmas decorations outside, a warm, cosy yet lively atmosphere we thought we found a winner. How wrong we were. Didn't even get to or want to experience the food or drink thanks to the pompous, arrogant, self-worthy attitude of the front of house gentleman that told us yes, he could fit us and in no more or no less words: "can you get off opentable" (I had the page still open on my phone). Then we're shown to a table and politely asked about the midweek 'Steak me out' offer still live on the homepage of their website at the time of this review. "That finished months ago". That was it. No apology, no explanation. Just walked off. From walking in and his arrogant 'why are you bothering us' type attitude we immediately felt like we didn't want to give this establishment any of our money, let alone celebrate my partner's 40th here. The next lady who came to us further explained it was the marketing company that need to update the website (I don't know how in this day and age that takes over a month to do) and went on to inform us they did have a Christmas menu offer on and apologised that we should have had a card on our table to know this. She was perfectly polite but we were already done, beautiful restaurant, cosy vibe, but sour taste in our mouth from the unwarmest of greetings had us get up and leave. We had to walk another 15 minutes, but went and had the warmest welcome, amazing food and service at Cote Brasserie instead and celebrated the night away there.
17:56 "Thanks for your order, it has been successfully received. You don't need to do anything else, just sit back, relax and wait for your meal to be delivered." 18:12 "Unfortunately Bluerapa Thai have cancelled your order this evening stating that they are unable to fulfil delivery orders at this current time. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience and frustration this causes, we were unaware of this prior to your order. A full refund has been processed to your payment card and should appear on your statement in 3-5 working days depending on your issuing bank" Caveat emptor.

I am very disappointed by the experience we had at your restaurant. We had booked a table for 8 people for Tuesday evening and were really looking forward to it and it was my boyfriend’s birthday, and we wanted to celebrate with Georgian food for the first time. One hour before our reservation, we texted the owner to let him know we would be arriving 10–15 minutes late. He replied that it was fine. However, when we arrived after taking a taxi from the other side of the city, the restaurant was completely closed with no explanation or notice. Not only did we waste money on the taxi and lose an evening we had been anticipating, but we were also deeply disappointed. What made the situation even more frustrating is that after we went to a nearby pizza place, we noticed the restaurant appeared to have opened again when we walked past it shortly afterwards. We didn’t go back in to ask for an explanation, as the whole experience already felt like a joke. Seeing other reviews mentioning that customers are being rushed to finish their meals only adds to the impression that the restaurant is not being managed seriously or professionally.

Visited Yadhuvanshi again today for lunch and had another great experience. The food was delicious and fresh as always, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Service was excellent—Somnath and Bhupi both took great care of us, very polite and attentive. As a lovely gesture, they even offered us complimentary ice cream, which made the visit extra special. Minimal wait time and great value for money. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great venue but food was nothing to write home about and very overpriced for what it was. Simple bowl of not that special gnocchi for £24! Two slices of tomato with radicchio for £7. Very unimaginative vegetarian selection. But we were most disappointed by the unsmiling serving and the long wait after the mains. We felt ignored. We waited so long, in fact, we decided to go elsewhere for desert. We won’t be returning.

We went to Makars Mash Bar in Edinburgh after my hairdresser recommended it to me. We were not disappointed! We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The service was very friendly and efficient. Next to no waiting time from ordering our Lamb Shanks with Bacon and Spring Onion Mash. Our meal was really good and so tasty. Good value too. A great atmosphere all round. Booking is a must though, or you could be disappointed. Ps. Not a big thing but... my husband ordered a beer, all local I believe. It was too sweet for him and he's partial to a cider. Just not to his taste. I did like how they brought a jug of cold Edinburgh tap water without be asked. We'll definitely be back. Can't wait!
