  • 1 star for poorly representing Cantonese and Szechuan culture. It's not good. I've eaten these dishes all my life this place is expensive, and the dishes have no flavor. Claypot rice is supposed to be super fragrant, this claypot rice is somehow both dry and they went light on the flavor they made it "north american". Hainese chicken rice massive disappointment. Rice not made properly, they didn't put the time in. It's supposed to be glistening with oil, every bite is supposed to literally glide, this rice is tough and fried (what the???), the chicken is supposed to be super super soft but theirs is tough. It's a dish that if properly done, is done in three different steps and each step takes half a day to do. They slacked and took a lot of shortcuts, not worth trying. (0.0%)

  • ... to have had dinner at Candide during a recent visit to Montreal. I should say first that this is not the kind of restaurant for "meat and potatoes" people or those who equate heavy entrees or large portions or decadent desserts or fast service with fine dining. The European model seeks a relaxed occasion with leisurely service and smaller but memorable servings. A fine meal with friends or family or a more intimate dinner for two is to be a total experience: good company, conversation, good food and drink and, perhaps, romance, all melded into one whole to be savored slowly and with appreciation. So it was at Candide. The food was superb, fresh ingredients prepared imaginatively. The two appetizers were garnished with tiny edible flowers native to Quebec; a nice touch I thought. Two courses were dressed with small amounts of purees of eggplant and smoked onion respectively. They were remarkable. My entree was halibut with cauliflower and sautéed onions. Fabulous. Dessert was corn cake with fruit and a slightly sweet dressing, topped with a small dollop of grape sorbet. Taken together, all of this was an absolute riot of flavors and textures. The service was impeccable, attentive but never intrusive. Each course was served by two people so that everyone in our party of four was served at exactly the same time. As each course appeared at the table so did one of the chefs to briefly explain what was in each dish and how it had been prepared. We paid a prix fixe price of $45.00 Canadian per person not including drinks or tip and that seems eminently reasonable to me. I recommend Candide with no reservations whatsoever. With all things taken into consideration, I think this was the single best restaurant meal I have had, ever. Maybe it will be yours too. I hope so. (0.0%)
  • 1 hour for food to arrive after we ordered. SHORT IN STAFF. They only had 1 table with people inside and 4 tables out and unbelievable how unorganized they seemed to be. The Waiters tried their hard but food was taking forever for everyone around and all we had a pizza, pasta with meat sauce and a sallat. I have worked in restaurants and believe me I could have handled all of the guests present in 35 minutes. Will not ever stop in this restaurant again (0.0%)
  • 1. GREEK SALAD. How can you not get fresh tomatoes in season ? 2. MAIN COURSE. Chicken souvlakis: just like the vacuum packed ones you buy at the supermarket, very small portion . Fried calamari : bland, floury batter. Both meals served with huge portions of broccoli past their prime. Once again, how can you not get fresh broccoli in season? 3. SERVICE. Being asked about our satisfaction with the meal, I mentioned the blandness of the calamari and pointed to the yellowish broccoli . Our waiter obviously asked out of habit as he did not show any concern, which was anyway his attitude during the entire meal. (0.0%)

  • "Come down a path, behind a church, across from a park" - these were the instructions we got when the kind staff at Candide called to make sure we could find our way. This gem of a restaurant isn't actually that hard to find and you will be very happy you made the trip! The simple menu they share on their website only hints at the delicious food to come. Put yourself in their food and wine hands. The service was great - not fussy and the staff are keen and happy. We look forward to going back! (0.0%)
  • $14.95 is prize for lunch buffet with unlimited items like butter chicken chicken , tandoori chicken , saag paneer and may more. Traditional Indian taste with convenient service. Definitely I will go soon again. (0.0%)
  • ... but very small portions! Felt overpriced when I left hungry. But, Hey! Food was excellent, service was great, place was nice. So still a 4 stars :) (0.0%)

"Legit food. Seriously satisfying monstrosity of a burger (see picture). Wen there yesterday for the first time - I'll most likely return if I find myself being hungry in that part of town. Service could have been quicker. We expect fast food to be.... you know....fast. That said, the person who served was friendly and good vibes. 30 bucks for a burger with some onion rings and a can of fizzy water is a little pricey for what it was, but this is downtown Montreal, whadyagonnado. I still recommend it."

"Had such a great St. Paddy’s celebration here! 🍀 We came with a table of 10 and everything was fantastic — delicious food, great drinks, and amazing service even though it was busy. The atmosphere was fun and lively, making it the perfect spot to celebrate. Can’t wait to come back! 🍻"

"Three years of annual meetings... and one last visit that puts an end to tradition. Non-existent welcome, unclear service (we did not know who served us), disappointing dishes (pasty broccoli, “fishy” scallops), staff on his phone and personal effects of employees exposed on the counter (drinks, apples, chargers...). Add to that a poorly maintained toilet (a mountain of paper that overflows from the garbage can), and the overall impression is of an establishment in decline – this was our last visit."
