A lot of the dishes felt catered to what I saw in there, which was primarily white folk. It didn’t taste like authentic Peruvian dishes, not that it had to be but a lot of it lacked flavor or depth. Not to mention the prices of the dishes don’t reflect the food at all. Very expensive, super long wait times, and extremely loud. Already a crowded small restaurant with music super loud, maybe it was my fault to bring my family there but if there’s way to make the environment less intense than it already is that would be great. Service was phenomenal, but waiting over an hour half for a pushed corner table for what I got was not even remotely worth it. Super disappointed.
A very pleasant stay. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. The hallways were somewhat noisy with folks who forget to use quiet indoor voices and doors that autoshut (as required) with a solid bang. The neighborhood street was a bit noisy during early evening hours but didnt impact sleep. The staff was cheerful and helpful. The location was 2 blocks from the BART and the ACT Theatre, and just a block from the courthouses. Excellent value for the city and I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Absinthe Brasserie & Bar is one of those SF spots that nails the brasserie vibe—warm, a little moody, and perfect for a relaxed but special night out. **4.5 stars** from me, mostly because the experience feels thoughtfully done from drinks to plating. The biggest highlight: **their absinthe selection is absolutely gorgeous**. If you’re even mildly curious about absinthe, this is the place to explore it—beautiful options, and the drinks come out looking as elegant as they taste (that pale-green pour is such a moment). Food-wise, everything we had looked and felt “classic French” with a polished touch. The **cream soup** was silky and rich, finished with a green herb oil swirl and crispy topping—simple, well-executed comfort. The **burger and fries** also hit: a properly indulgent, brasserie-style burger with a deep, savory vibe and a pile of thin fries that are easy to keep snacking on. Even the small bites felt elevated—those **gougères/cheese puffs** were golden, airy, and prettily garnished. Only reason it’s not a full 5: it can feel bustling and a bit loud when it’s busy. But overall, if you want French brasserie energy with an **excellent absinthe program**, Absinthe is a must.
1601 Bay & Kitchen is a hidden gem among so many over rated restaurants in SF. We spent most of our Saturday night here enjoying the chef's tasting menu which featured modern twists on classic Sri Lankan flavors. The duck leg curry was the star of the menu, but we enjoyed everything from the savory uni ice cream to the traditional egg hopper. At 110pp, it's also probably one of the best value tasting menus I've had in a while. The wine pairing felt like a bit of a miss at times, but I appreciated the variety including beer & sake with some of the courses. The restaurant was quiet, service was never rushed, and we enjoyed the opportunity to talk with the chef and owner throughout the evening.
A Warm Welcome to the USA at Hotel Fiona! As a first-time visitor to the United States, We couldn't have asked for a better introduction than our stay at Hotel Fiona in San Francisco. From the moment we arrived, we felt truly welcomed – and a big part of that was thanks to Erika, our wonderful host. Erika went above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable, safe, and informed. She was incredibly friendly and helpful, taking time to answer my questions about the area, give local tips, and recommend nearby restaurants and attractions that weren’t just tourist traps. Her kindness really set the tone for the whole trip. The hotel itself is charming, clean, and well-located – close enough to walk to many key spots in the city, but still in a peaceful neighborhood. Room was cozy, well-kept, and had everything we needed. I especially appreciated the thoughtful touches like great coffee and tea in the morning and the quiet, restful atmosphere after a day of sightseeing. As someone experiencing the USA for the first time, I felt genuinely cared for here. Hotel Fiona, and Erika in particular, helped make my trip memorable in the best possible way. Highly recommend to anyone visiting San Francisco – especially if it's your first time in the States!
A beautiful and special, not to mention delicious and well serviced establishment. I went for the happy hour beer and apps, (btw, very fairly priced) and I was not disappointed by the service, ambiance or quality taste and presentation of food at all. The tables and chairs were nice and clean. The floor didn't stick to your shoes. The service was fast. The music was good. The waiter and service and food was really great. Also their were not to many people there on the Friday at 6pm when I went. Definitely a 5/5 star place that I'm going back too again.
You.must.eat.here. First, let’s get this out of the way. If you are looking for a romantic and intimate place, you will have to go elsewhere. This place is LOUD. With crowded seating, I was a part of three different conservations and it wasn’t pleasant. I’d recommend sitting at the end of the bar to minimize the noise pollution. And the drinks. If you are looking for stellar mixologist-inventions, this again, is not your place. Ok. Now that’s out of the way. I’ll say it again. EAT. HERE. We had the dried porcini donuts, chicken liver banh mi, the aged beef wonton, tonnarelli sea urchin (with their in-house made gluten free pasta) and the steak. It was all exceptional (minus the pasta which was good but not exceptional). This is my most memorable meal all year, by far. What sticks out to me is that everything was seasoned perfectly and the flavors were pleasantly vibrant. The two things that REALLY stuck out were the donuts and banh mi. They both were extraordinary and are two small bite plates that you should definitely order. I am looking forward to returning again and again.
My stay at the Stanyon Park Hotel was necessary as a family member was an inpatient at at UCSF which is within walking distance. I met my House keeper on my day early check out by random occurrences in the hallway. She was incredibly polite and thoughtful; in asking me specific questions about care needs for my room. I explained I was checking out early so her thoughts were appreciated but not necessary. The rest of the staff seemed to only be there for the purpose of working; not for the needs of customers. All or most of the rooms at the Stanyon Park Hotel face inward upon each other at some point; like a horse shoe. This causes many issues. From sounds that carry ( voices, music, children screaming, personal sounds, phone calls etc.) , the inability to open the window shades for lack of privacy, ( you see directly into one another’s room. So there is a huge feeling of isolation at the very least to confinement. There are no pictures on the walls and this picture is mis leading; it really shows the shear inner Roman Shade partially lifted, as they do not lift all the way, with the view of the building across the way. Nothing more. The windows themselves , though part of the vintage “ charm” were an issue for me personally. As the are sash window that physically moves up and down; they are easy to become unbalanced from side to side as the move up and down. Causing them not to sit all the way to the bottom of the sill; leaving a open air gap. Well; the week I was there; it dropped to 37 degrees! The small baseboard radiator style unit heater takes a significant amount of time to heat the room! ( even at full on!) Speaking of the windows…my bathroom window was opaque with no shade whatsoever! This meant that once darkness fell; no light could be used in the bathroom for any bathroom routine! As everything would be silhouetted in that opaque window for all to see! Same for the morning shower routine! I looked out the ally and could see the other bathroom windows had Roman Shades. Seeing that this was the case; on two separate occasions, I asked the front desk to have this investigated. The morning girl looked at me like I was making a peculiar request to have a window covering in the restroom for privacy! Then she explained that it would most likely not be done for some reason about screws being placed in the walls. I had to explain to her; that shades are in fact, installed in the window itself, and not the wall. So she finally “ got it” and agreed to have the maintenance person drop by the room. In not having heard a report, by the next morning, I asked again. Same thing. This front desk person did not understand what opaque was. By this time; I was getting pretty fed up with these two. So I said; how would you like to shower or go potty with a back light behind you to where everyone can see you? And I added; the rest of the rooms have them and right now I am showering in the dark! She only agreed to pass along my message to maintenance just to appease my request. Suffice it to say. Absolutely nothing was done about my request. Nothing was said to me about this awful and what I would call unacceptable inconvenience. When I was checking out, a full day early, two men were behind the counter. An older woman was trying diligently to find a room for 1 night at the last minute. Do you think they gave her my room? ( with the hotel booked up.) Nope…..even with an excuse of their computers showing blocks of rooms being taken blah blah….they, as human beings, knew I was checking out early, and it was available. Bad Form Dudes! I can Honestly say…Run, Run Far away from this Hotel.
Clean if smallish rooms. Front desk Millennials clueless. A bit noisy at night. Great location though! One block from Union Square. Not a bad base for exploring The City. Good online rates. Walking around town is very nice but steep! Built in 1909. Nicely renovated. Thanks
The sashimi was very fresh also the peanut butter roll was so good. Noisy but fun atmosphere. Service was great!!
We chose this restaurant for our first night in SF mainly for its location near our hotel, in the Pacific Heights area, and also because of the great reviews. We were not disappointed. Having enjoyed a light meal at an earlier cooking class, we were happy to have later reservations. When we arrived on foot, the valet attendant greeted us warmly and opened the door. The place was full! We arrived about 15 minutes prior to our reservation so we waited a bit. The bar was packed so we waited near the hostess stand. We were led to a lovely table just outside the front door in a small, toasty, fireplace-lit room! There was even a personalized birthday card waiting for me! With only four tables, it’s a charming and intimate room but for the table of five women loudly celebrating a birthday. Our server, Chase was THE BEST! Without us saying anything, he apologized for the noise, noting we had requested a quiet table in our reservation. He told us they were getting dessert menus but he could move us if we wanted. We declined and the loud ones soon departed. The food is beyond delicious! My husband chose the duck breast and said it was just as good as one he had in France, which is his measuring stick for duck! I had the special John Dory and it was so moist and flavorful! Both were presented in such unique styles! Mine had a layer of scalloped potatoes that appeared to look like scales. Toasted just right, this layer provided a shield to keep the fish perfectly moist. A choice of breads, tasty amuse bouche, an amazing taste of the Sunchoke bisque made us regret not ordering a larger bowl for dinner, too! We ended with decadent beignets and a surprise slice of birthday confetti cake rounded out a perfect evening. We also appreciated the very extensive wine list and the way the sommelier brought our wines by the glass in the bottles and allowed us to taste a sip before pouring. In a city with so many great restaurants, this will forever be one of our favorites. Thank you so much for such a memorable evening! We can’t wait to return!
Very happy with my stay - clean and tidy. Just the right size. Very well located. (Especially for hire cars). Not noisy. Reasonably priced. Has a bar. No food facilities but restaurants abound. Good for moscone centre if you’re at a conference

We had a wonderful dinner here last night. The food was absolutely fabulous. Incredible attention to detail, with expertly crafted flavor. The service was delightful and friendly. It was quiet so we could hear each other speaking across the table (rare these days). An absolute gem in the center of SF!

Ongoing construction that is very loud and goes 7 days a week from 7 am to 7 pm. Yet they choose not to tell you in advance. Room smelled so bad it was intolerable. Definitely stay elsewhere.

I was underwhelmed by this hotel and will not stay again. The common areas were dingy and tired, and the neighborhood felt unsafe when returning from dinner in the evening. The coffee in the lobby was excellent, but there was no coffee maker in the room. The staff's hospitality was inconsistent, with door staff standing by while I hauled my bags up the stairs unassisted. On the positive side, the bed was excellent, the room was clean and extremely quiet.
