  • +Great food. A little expensive but fair prices -Terrible ambience and mediocre service. =Next time I’m getting take out! (0.0%)
  • ...Beginning of update... The amount of food they serve has decreased to a noticeable extent. What's worse: the service has really gone downhill: with the restaurant being half empty, I was refused a seat even in a 2-person table. I had to wait for a space at the bar. After much consideration, I left the restaurant. Service is really essential to a dining experience. ...End of update... I must admit that I found it difficult to review this restaurant. This is because I have never spent so little money (less than $20, pre-tip) and felt so full at a Japanese restaurant: the amount they gave was truly surprising. Yet, Japanese restaurants are quite different from, say, Chinese restaurants, in that Japanese restaurants typically serve minute amounts of food, that which is highly delicate (sometimes it's the taste of the food, and sometimes it's the arrangement of the foods, and sometimes it's both, such as kaiseki, a traditional Japanse multi-course dinner). Therefore, if I were to judge the food they serve by the standard of being delicate, I would have to deduct a star or two, as the food here have no connection to either meaning of delicate, as aforementioned. With that said, I do think this place gives good, or even great, value if you don't judge its food by how delicate the food is. As is evident from my photo, although the salmon was on the smaller side, the amount of tempura was ample, as was the amount of salad and rice on the side. I don't want to reiterate, but I was truly astonished to barely being able to finish my plate. In all due fairness, it is possible that their sushi or sashimi are delicate, but as I didn't order any, I can't comment on those. Speaking of which, they offer combination plates known as A+A, A+B, and B+B, where A is some cooked item, and B is some raw item, and the more B there is, the more expensive the combination plate is. Although the place is quite small, and I don't like the divider at the entrance, service was good and prompt. What I like the most about the service, however, is how the waitress chose to look away while I was signing the credit card charge slip, and deciding how much to tip. At some restaurants, the servers literally stare at you and react based on how much you are tipping. I know how some servers depend on tips to make a living wage, but I really appreciate that this waitress wasn't giving me any pressure to tip: because I felt so comfortable, I tipped even more than I usually would. • 06/2024 Visited on a weekend evening. Pretty busy but not overly so. I ordered the Hokkaido Scallop, Unagi, and Ika Nigiri, along with the Spicy Salmon Hand Roll and Taiyaki Ice Cream dessert. Overall, it ran me about $50. The food was just "alright." None of the food was morish and the price I paid didn't feel justified. The hand roll was pathetic - I could not tell that there was salmon in there... And the Taiyaki Ice Cream was literally just one of those ice creams you could buy a four-pack of but charged three times more. This restaurant serves Nigiri and Handrolls, but I'd say stick with the regular rolls and save the specialty sushi for a dedicated omakase restaurant. And absolutely skip the dessert... Atmosphere - The restaurant's main appeal is that it runs as a "bullet train" restaurant. However... when I came to visit, it wasn't running! And because of this (or not), service was pretty slow! It took 20 minutes to get my food... The decor of the restaurant was okay... I guess I expected more eating at a Sushi restaurant in San Francisco. Would I eat here again? Absolutely not, lol... Way too expensive for what you get and there are no promises of their marketing draw (bullet train). (0.0%)

  • 12/30/2025 I have visited Golden Era several times this year. Today I tried several new dishes including Curry Okra! It was so good. I also bought 3 different kinds vegan jerky. I tried all of them with my friend before we ordered our lunch. They were all super delicious in different ways. I had dinner here for the first time with a group of vegan friends who highly recommended this place. Oh boy, everything was so good! The food was so good that I forgot to take photos for most of them. I haven't stopped thinking about the dishes and can't wait to go again in a couple weeks. (0.0%)
  • 2nd visit to the Melt after 2-3 years. Much better this time around. The burgers and fries were delicious. (0.0%)
  • 5/5 Nice place, great food. we ordered the hamachi spoons, shaken beef and basil chicken and an ume highball. Next time we'll try the small bites plates. Overall, its a classy intimate place. The food is fresh and sophisticated. Can’t wait to return. (0.0%)

  • 1 the service was the worst I have received in San Francisco. Nobody would wait on us. 20 mins for water. 10 mins for a refill. They staff more worried about setting the tables (0.0%)
  • 1.5 hours waiting for the main meal to be served. Service was random and confusing. Hard to imagine such a service in San Francisco or anywhere else. (0.0%)
  • 2 couples went to dinner, we had booked in March for end of September. This place books up months in advance. We had a table for 8pm, arrived early, had a cocktail while we waited. Seat just after 8pm the place was packed. Prime Rib was great we had ours seared as like it more medium than rare, sides were delicious, but far too huge portions the jacket potato would have been a meal on its own. Was sorry to see it wasted after just 2 bites. Salad starter was also lovely. We squeezed desert in shares 2 between 4 of us. Dinner for 4 with a cocktail each came in just shy of $400 Inc tip. Would we do it again... Yes, for very special occasions, but book well in advance or you will be disappointed (0.0%)

  • ... I finally managed to visit again and I still loved it, this time I had a table and just had to order from the menu, always a bit tricky as I don't know the names of the different sushi's but there seems to be no risk in Ryoko, what every we ordered it tasted wonderful, some more of my taste some less, but don't get it wrong it complaining on a very high level, I will go again, and hopefully I don't wait that long (still it's a long way from Switzerland) (0.0%)
  • 1st time visiting Zuni despite it's been a SF iconic restaurant for many years. Started off with glasses of red and rose wine and a vodka drink. Basket of Acme bread to stave off the hunger while browsing the menu. Starters to share: the salad with blood oranges, pine nuts, arugula and feta (very tasty but small), polenta with Parmesan cheese (tasty). Had their Zuni roasted chicken w/arugula & bread salad: very juicy, tasty and filling. Took half home. Other diner had the grilled swordfish, mussels with white beans, artichoke hearts. Dessert was strawberry granita w/oatmeal cookie, and rhubarb costa with vanilla bean ice cream. It was delicious and this is for special occasions. Service was excellent. This is a must try once in your life restaurant for the experience. Recommend reservations. Parking is difficult. (0.0%)
  • 20 years ago on a business trip San Francisco someone took me for lunch to a Dim Sum eatery at lunchtime ... not so much a restaurant, more a canteen. Many years later we booked Yank Sing and enjoyed a lunch there. Fantastic food served throughout the restaurant from trollers by enthusiastic staff ... the atmosphere was buzzing and the food amazing. Point to a dish and it is on your table, ask for something from the menu and it arrives quickly ask for a recommendation and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. It isn’t the cheapest place to have lunch, but it is a frenzied experience with atmosphere and great food - not just Dim Sum there are a few more traditional Chinese dishes on offer too. Well worth a visit for lunch, make a reservation as it will be busy. 6 out of 5 if I could award it. (0.0%)

"Came here on a double date. We were immediately seated due to having reservations. Our waiter immediately came and took orders when we were ready. He provided drink reccomendations upon being requested. I ordered the 2 tacos entree (Salmon and shrimp), my wife ordered the steak entrees. She ordered a beer and I ordered the watermelon type of drink. My tacos were so dry and the waiter forgot to bring me avocado salsa. However, even after he brought it, it was still so very dry and not very flavorful. It's like the just added the seafood on it without seasoning it. Also, I specifically told him no onions. However, there was onions on both my tacos. The rice was hard on some of the parts. The only thing great was the beans. My wife stated that get steak was bland as well. She nor I was pleased. I didn't bother to complain because we were with other people and I just wanted to have a great night. My drink came out watery with no flavor. I had to ask for additional watermelon stuff to put in it. He didn't even give me a straw, although he posted straws to everyone else. The waiter only came over once to check in on us and that was it. When the bill came, I gave the waiter $20 to make change for me. He made the change and handed it back to my friend. He was not even paying attention to us the entire time and now this. I felt such a way."

"I mean… let’s be honest, you don’t go to Pier 39 for the food. It’s the iconic pier with the sea lions that bring us back to Fisherman’s Wharf time and time again, and if you get a seat by the back windows then I’d say it’s worth it. Otherwise, you might leave feeling like it didn’t quite hit the mark. Frankly, the food screams Sysco — I’m not convinced I was eating local or fresh fish, let alone a house-made coleslaw or sauce. The service was spotty, and we spent far too long trying to get someone’s attention to grab the check. I did appreciate that they validated parking, though it was only discounted and not fully included (something to consider if you’re driving in)."

"A back street diamond of a place just a short stroll from the old town along the riverside. Open style restaurant, run by a very welcoming couple who clearly enjoy feeding people from all walks of life. The food is fresh, fragrant and authentic. Specialties all worth a try. Able to cater gluten free and support other allergies across a menu which is simple yet delicious. Definitely try the rose cake dumplings, they are a ‘wow’. Such delicate little morsels that were so yummy we ordered another portion. Can recommended the curry specialty and the chicken skewers with fried rice. Food service was worth the short wait. Kong and his wife were just lovely. Will be returning for sure to try the seafood."
