06/2024 Visited on a weekend evening. Pretty busy but not overly so. I ordered the Hokkaido Scallop, Unagi, and Ika Nigiri, along with the Spicy Salmon Hand Roll and Taiyaki Ice Cream dessert. Overall, it ran me about $50. The food was just "alright." None of the food was morish and the price I paid didn't feel justified. The hand roll was pathetic - I could not tell that there was salmon in there... And the Taiyaki Ice Cream was literally just one of those ice creams you could buy a four-pack of but charged three times more. This restaurant serves Nigiri and Handrolls, but I'd say stick with the regular rolls and save the specialty sushi for a dedicated omakase restaurant. And absolutely skip the dessert... Atmosphere - The restaurant's main appeal is that it runs as a "bullet train" restaurant. However... when I came to visit, it wasn't running! And because of this (or not), service was pretty slow! It took 20 minutes to get my food... The decor of the restaurant was okay... I guess I expected more eating at a Sushi restaurant in San Francisco. Would I eat here again? Absolutely not, lol... Way too expensive for what you get and there are no promises of their marketing draw (bullet train).
1 delivery 35 min wait not good
12/30/2025 I have visited Golden Era several times this year. Today I tried several new dishes including Curry Okra! It was so good. I also bought 3 different kinds vegan jerky. I tried all of them with my friend before we ordered our lunch. They were all super delicious in different ways. I had dinner here for the first time with a group of vegan friends who highly recommended this place. Oh boy, everything was so good! The food was so good that I forgot to take photos for most of them. I haven't stopped thinking about the dishes and can't wait to go again in a couple weeks.
Sometimes I travel so I can immerse myself in the local cuisines and traditions. And other times I find local restaurants that remind me of those odysseys. My first pilgrimage to Cantoo Latin Asian Rotisserie let me wander and explore two cuisines and countries at the same time - Venezuela and China. I can hardly wait to go back. I stopped off on my way to see Richard Thompson at the Fillmore. The menu is pretty extensive and there are so many different soups, appetizers, rotisserie chickens, B.B.Q. pork ribs dishes and clay pots. The list and unique combinations were endless and a bit overwhelming. I ordered a Empanada con Carne Mechada: Deep fried corn flour empanada with Venezuelan shredded beef. and Chili Oil Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings: Home made pork dumplings! Made from scratch, starting from grinding the meat, to seasoning the filling of the dumplings. Both were so good. The Empanada had flavors of sweet corn filled with a rich shredded beef. The Pork Dumplings were fresh and tasty. The chili oil gives the dumpling's the right amount of heat and made my tongue sing. Service was so kind, friendly and efficient. I know I just scratched the surface of this gem. While located in the Tenderloin, the street is alive with people and automobiles. I felt completely safe. Matt says if you are anywhere near O'Farrell St - maybe near Union Square or on your way to the Great American Music Hall, take a Lyft or the 38 (R) Muni and let yourself travel to China and Venezuela and explore the amazing and creative foods of those countries.
10/10 Black pepper filet mignon! Was outstanding! 10/10 Shrimp fried rice 10/10 Black pepper shrimp fried rice We arrived at 10 pm and we were greeted warmly. Definitely worth the drive from the OC. We will be back it was that good. Our waiter packed some of our food. Maybe because it wasn't busy?! Idk either way THANK YOU 🙏🏽
$200 for 5 people & everyone was disappointed! Came here to meet family & were blown away by the view! Service was great but the table needed wiping down & we waited, despite a reservation and plenty of open tables. It looked like there were plenty of waitstaff. Valet parking was twelve dollars with no other option but that. Ordered $28 chicken breast, $14 garlic noodles, & $20 shrimp, among other things. The chicken was tough & dry, the noodles were spicy (which was not indicated on the menu), and there were only 4 shrimp on the plate. Flat water was free but sparkling was ten bucks! Diet Coke was five for a glass. Everyone left still very hungry and we ate when we got back to the room. For that kind of money I expect to be taking home a doggie bag and raving over the taste, amount, and presentation. Unimpressed and would not recommend.
100% Italian products and cooks. Good Italian restaurant, with rich food and good products at a reasonable price for Los Angeles. The bad... It is small and noisy, very uncomfortable with the waiters always passing around you and with the tables very very close together (must book).
100% Overrated We visited Sushi Gen for dinner tonight after reading lots of good reviews from others. It’s either my expectation was too high or the service & food quality wasn’t good. We had to wait over 40 minutes to be seated. After we sat down it took about 15 minutes to order the drinks. Waitress was very slow and not organised. We had question about different dishes and waitress didn’t have much knowledge. When it comes to food, we were very disappointed with the quality of food. It wasn’t really authentic Japanese food. I have had a lot better Japanese food in other Japanese restaurants in the area, such as Tenno. We didn’t even finish our dinner because we didn’t like it much. I disagree with other good reviews about this restaurant. And probably would not go back again FYI: they charge house Sauvignon Blanc $70 for a half bottle. Definitely overrated.
High End Korean Cuisine We tried this restaurant based on the reputation of the owner and chef, David Chang. We were delighted to see the chef there the night we visited, and my son was able to meet him and congratulate him on this new enterprise. We tried a selection of small plates and shared them around the table. All were unique and flavorful. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful and we enjoyed dining outdoors in their courtyard area. We will definitely return in the future when we have the opportunity.

Cion our service attendant was amazing. We came to Denny's expecting less, she made it more. She was such a treat to be waited by. Thank you for a lovely dining experience.

Thank you Ms. Cindy, super lovely service, very hospitable and warming. Food came out fats and delicious. This is a perfect spot to kill time while waiting for train or bus in downtown.

An icon This was my first time trying this iconic sushi place. I visit Little Tokyo fairly often, and have seen first hand the lines that form here pre-opening. My visit was pretty much during the lunch rush. There were seats available at the sushi bar, but you can only order a la carte sushi here, not the specials or combo meals, so I put my name down for a table. The wait was quoted as 10-20 minutes. They come out and call your name; no texting. While waiting, dozens of people came in and out. After 30 minutes, I checked again and they said they had called me, but I did not see or hear them even though I was right outside. Eventually I was seated. The sushi bar is quite large with diners literally touching shoulders. There are 2 dining areas with tables. Service was quick and efficient. Diners include Japanese-speaking Japanese and English-speaking Japanese ( a good sign), plus every other nationality. It was either Infatuation or Eater that recommended ordering the Sashimi Lunch, so that's what I did. It was $26 and included miso soup, tofu, tsukemono (pickled veggies) and rice. The plate had 9 different fish presentations: a spicy tuna poke, a non-spicy poke, cooked tuna, cooked salmon, 3 types of sliced tuna and 2 sliced whitefish. Everything was very fresh and tasty. It seems there may be less waiting if you arrive later into their lunch hours, like around 1:30 pm I would definitely return if the wait wasn't too long for a table. I'm not enough of a sushi afficionado to sit at the bar.

Unique restaurant We found it by pure chance, turning the corner from our hotel. It is located very close to the subway. Elegant, with a patio outside. Many customers, reservations are required. Typical Italian dishes, mainly fresh pasta. Well-maintained location. Value for money in line with the place. There is security at the entrance; fantastic staff.
