**** Food: As other diners had reported the uneven volume of salt in many dishes baffled. Add to that round of reports the amount of spirit in at least one drink. Hot toddy was fabulous so long as its temperature stayed hot; then its vermouth strangled the fungi- and filiform. Saltless beef tallow fries let the diner wish for tableside salt and pepper. But escargot paired with apple cider or water was best even though still quite mild. But then again, wonderfully tender yet terribly, terribly, terribly salty beef bourguignon went way past hearty. Was its super salty taste due to too much reduction? Its sauce wasn't thick so I question that afterthought. Moving on, desserts were fine and included a tall French toast and ice creams. ***** Service: Best in ages and also fun. Jared Leto may have greeted us when we entered. Just kidding! The fellow looked like him in a dim entryway which was more _The Matrix_ than _Tron: Ares._ **** Atmosphere: Dim as previously noted and quite comfortable even though loud music carried heavy bass. (Randolph St, Restaurant Row's Muzak/Pandora/Spotify volume levels just didn't suit this much-classier site.) There were diners aplenty at this location in the 130-year-old Chicago landmark Monadnock Building and across from/near the Union League Club. Now if this eatery could make its cuisine more like G Cuisance's former Kiki's Bistro on N Franklin St....
9/13/24 Friday: The waitress with blonde hair, this morning, didn’t notice me in the front for over 10mins. It was very slow there in the morning. She argued with me saying the kitchen was busy that’s why she didn’t see me. Then when I asked for the sour cream that came with the breakfast burrito (the menu says it comes with), she said that they don’t usually give her that? When I asked for an additional guacamole (since I ordered two breakfast burritos), seemed like she didn’t like that. I over heard her saying that she was going home, to another customer. So when it took a very long time to get the sour cream, she came at me saying loudly that the kitchen is downstairs and it’s a far walk. Then I asked for the guacamole again, I said don’t worry I can ask someone else if you are going home. She was talking to me again an argumentative tone, it was kind of embarrassing honestly, I said if it’s too much to ask it’s ok don’t worry about it. Eventually she came over with the extra guacamole (each burrito comes with). Just the whole experience was very unpleasant, not sure if she is having a bad day or unhappy today, maybe she is just trying to get out of there because her shift is over? The burrito was great though. Was looking forward to the sour cream with it though, was the reason I ordered the item in the first place. But by the time I got it, I had almost finished eating both.
Awful service, preferential treatment to other guests, got our order wrong multiple times, highly disorganized and unprofessional staff. Horrible, loud ambiance as well, with terrible seating. Every time someone opens the front door you get blasted with an arctic breeze.
Awesome service, great vibe, good music and quality food and drinks!
Bri was such a great server! Has such a lovely demeanor and took great care of us. The short rib special was delicious and the wine was also very good! Loved the ambiance - full tables but not too loud. Would definitely recommend!
Cairo Oasis on Wabash Avenue in Chicago offers a solid four-star escape into Egyptian and Middle Eastern cuisine, where the aromatic shawarma platters wrap tender, spiced lamb in fluffy pita with fresh tahini and pickled veggies that burst with authentic flavors, while the creamy baba ghanoush and crispy falafel provide a smoky, satisfying start to any meal. The vibrant, hookah-infused lounge atmosphere pulses with cultural charm and lively music, making it a fun spot for groups, though the dim lighting and occasional wait times during busy evenings can feel a bit chaotic. The attentive staff shine with recommendations and warm hospitality, delivering generous portions at fair prices that make it a reliable choice for flavorful bites, even if the menu could use more innovative vegetarian twists to elevate it further. Overall, it’s a welcoming haven for those craving a taste of the Nile in the heart of the city, blending tradition with urban vibe for a memorable, if not flawless, dining experience.
A good restaurant with normal Italian food. Good choices. Fairly expensive. Quite noisy; enough that conversation can be difficult. One of a chain of similar restaurants in Chicago with variations. While good, not a standout restaurant. Responsive servers.
A highly recommended Mexican restaurant. The food is good and portions that one could share. Nice wine list and good staff. The noise level was a little high for me.
A ludicrous pretentious restaurant. Terrible, over priced food. The starters were smothered in nasty, cloying, gloopy sauces. Even the Caesar salad was a candy mess. The steak was poor. The music at 7 in the evening was so loud you had to shout to hear yourself heard. I know, I know, they are trying to create an atmosphere. Pretending to be 'with it' and young. Attempting to differentiate themselves from other steak restaurants, however you do wish to be able to actually hold a conversation over your meal. The martini had so much ice it was watery. Dreadfully over priced. It's the emperor's new clothes and at the end of the day it is still just a steak restaurant. But is it a good steak restaurant? Are the chefs competent? Nope. Do yourself a favour, stroll across the road and go to Gibson’s to see how it should be done.
My husband and I had our anniversary dinner at Bavette's. I loved the ambience - dimly lit and we had a quiet booth. He started with oysters, which he liked a lot. We shared the small order of sourdough bread - thick, warm slices that were so good. I had the miso glazed black cod, which normally I love, but it was swimming in broth, so there was no crispness, and I didn't really enjoy it (my husband ate most of it, but we didn't finish it). He had the ribeye, which he enjoyed. We also shared a side of Brussels Sprouts, which I loved (took home the leftovers) and a baked sweet potato with butter and brown sugar, which was great (took home the leftovers of that, too). We were also given a complimentary dessert for our anniversary, which was good (even though we were so full, we made some room). Our server was attentive and friendly. Overall great, just didn't love the preparation of the cod.
38th wedding Anniversary came on October 25, 2018 Rochelle L. and Leonard E. has a very quiet evening dining on a cold but warmer evening in Streeterville at one of their most favor french restaurant called Les Nomades. Les Nomades is 222 East Ontario in Chicago. They returned again because of not just good, but great space and overwhelming great food for their palate. Rochelle L has a 4 course dining experience, and Leonard E. added an additional course. Each course left both of them wanting that to be a full meal.... Yes, keep that course coming..... Plats Premiers Hawaiian Ahi tuna tart, parmesan za’atar sable, confit tomato, zucchini, green beans, saffron sauce. The favors were transferred with each bit. The Hawaiian Ali Tuna melted in your mouth, asking for one more piece. Rochelle's Escargots, yellow tomato coulis, Roquefort cheese was enjoyed one snail at a time. The sauce the was surrounding the snails was supped up one by one, sometime accompanied by a crust of french bread. Les Poisso The size of Rochelle Grilled Scottish Salmon, wild rice, cucumber and beet salad, eggless béarnaise was much larger then Leonard's salmon in the previous course.. Leonard's Roasted duck breast and confit duck leg, Savoy cabbage, truffle corn purée, sauce Rouennaise.... make you him want more and just more ...... Les Viandes et Les Volailles Grilled romaine, warm goat cheese salad, pomegranate, Honeycrisp apple, balsamic Caesar dressing was Leonard's 5th course. One salad was teaser. They has to move on. avant le dernier cours (Before the last course) A rhubarb pear apple soup with a dollop of pear sorbet cleanse the palate for the next and final eating. Les Fromages et Les Desserts Fresh apple tart with green apple sorbet An assortment of candies and macaroons were place on the table. Calling in advance they honored the dining by presenting a little cake with a lighted candle with a plate written in chocolate saying "Happy 38th Anniversary ". Now the table has all the sweetness required for a sugar rush..... The service was well appointed for the evening and water glasses were never empty until the end.... The table was handled by Aaron, Erwin, and Edwin. The final course came with great conversation by Nicholas Butera. He was oversee the house that evening, Mary Beth was not seen, although Chef Roland Liccioni came to greet his friends next to our table. Les Nomades still holds-on to a very top spot for dining. Yes, The napkins are overly generous portion of material. Rochelle L. was well please with the selection for their anniversary.... Leonard E commented doing and after dining for 3-1/2 hours, they had not a care in the world. Shalom

The food was OK. They wouldn’t give me a cup of water. There was nowhere to wash my hands, nor was there any hand sanitizer. The music was annoyingly loud.

Amazing views from the patio, delicious steak and tasty hors d’oerves made for a lovely birthday dinner. The fries were a bit soggy by the time we got them and there were some interesting street characters that were louder than the music at the restaurant. Other than that, stellar service and cuisine.

If you’re looking for a tapas bar where local people go and that doesn’t have the typical basic/oily tapas but elaborate, original dishes with combinations of flavors and textures, this is your place. The quantities of the lids are adequate. The place is small but the area is very nice. We were on the terrace and the street although with traffic it is quiet. The staff is friendly. It's a place we'd definitely repeat.
